AlphaGalileo--The
MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University
Twente in Enschede and the Australian CRC for MicroTechnology
in Melbourne have announced the signing of an agreement
to share best practice in defining new products and
collaborating with industrial partners.
The
CRC brings together leading participants from the
research, government and industry sectors committed
to achieving high levels of outcomes in adoption and
commercialisation in the micro and nano technology
arena.
MESA+
has a strong relationship with industry, both through
joint research projects with the larger multinational
companies, and through a cooperation policy focused
on small and medium-sized enterprises.
Both
parties will be visiting each other and collaborating
closely in the near future to better understand their
respective strengths and capabilities. This is expected
to result in joint business opportunities, a student
exchange program between the two parties and the establishment
of a collaborative research project.
Kees
Eijkel, technical-commercial director of MESA+:
‘The CRC understands the difficulty in converting
a piece of research to a market ready product and
have appropriate processes in place. We are interested
in the CRC operational model. We will work together
to frame a suitable value proposition for all.’
CRC
CEO Clive Davenport: ‘MESA+ has distinguished itself
as a research institute with extensive laboratory
facilities that promote young companies to develop
and start their own business. Spin-offs around the
institute show continued growth. We are interested
in MESA+ approaches to commercialisation and entrepreneurial
activities. Together we are committed to successfully
delivering the best research from the laboratory to
the marketplace.’
