With
decades of experience managing and advising emerging
technology companies, including three years on Microfabrica's
board of directors, Dr. Lam will continue to guide
the company as it moves into production and expands
its global presence.
Adam
Cohen, Microfabrica's founder and former chairman,
and the inventor of the company's EFAB(r) technology,
will continue to serve as chief technology officer
and executive vice president of technology.
"Over
the last three years, Dr. Lam's wealth of experience
has already proven to be invaluable in shaping our
strategic direction. We are now looking forward to
benefiting even more from his wisdom and guidance
in his new role as chairman," said Vacit Arat,
president and CEO of Microfabrica.
Dr.
Lam is chairman of David Lam Group and a venture partner
of Torrance, CA-based DynaFund Ventures. He is particularly
well known for founding Lam Research, which went public
in 1984 and has since become a global leader in semiconductor
capital equipment. He later established the David
Lam Group, an investment and business advisory firm
for high-tech start-ups. As a 'mentor capitalist',
Dr. Lam blends a unique style of hands-on coaching
with extensive management experience to guide high-tech
entrepreneurs.
"I
have been a big believer in Microfabrica from its
early days. The EFAB process is truly a breakthrough
manufacturing technology that enables solutions not
feasible with any other technology for a wide range
of applications," said Dr. David Lam, Microfabrica
chairman. "I'm pleased to take on an expanded
role as the company moves to delivering leading products
in key applications."
Dr.
Lam graduated from the University of Toronto in engineering
physics, and holds masters and doctoral degrees in
chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology. He is a senior fellow of the American
Leadership Forum and a member of the Board of Governors
of the National Conference for Community and Justice

About
Microfabrica Inc.
Originally founded in 1999 as MEMGen Corporation,
Microfabrica Inc. is a leader in microdevice manufacturing.
The company's breakthrough proprietary EFAB(r) technology
brings a new paradigm to micro-fabrication, offering
unprecedented flexibility, ease-of-use and quick time-to-market
in a wide range of applications including wireless,
consumer electronics, automotive and military/aerospace.
EFAB is the first manufacturing technology that can
fabricate intricate, truly three-dimensional microdevices
by depositing many tens-to-hundreds of precision metal
layers. The technology opens up a world of possibilities
for complex microdevices and microsystems previously
impossible or impractical to manufacture using other
approaches.
