MONTREAL,
QUEBEC--- Raymor Industries
Inc. (TSX VENTURE:RAR) is proud to announce that
the 2005 Nanotechnology for Defense conference,
held from July 25th to July 27th, 2005, in Washington
DC, was a great success for the company, confirming
the very strong, immediate need for Raymor's single-walled
carbon nanotubes (C-SWNT) .
During
this conference, the majority of decision makers
from the US Military, as well as from other leading-edge
companies were in attendance in order to discuss
business. Raymor has received many requests for
quotations for its single-walled carbon nanotubes,
as well as many requests for samples from its current
production. By the end of September, Raymor will
supply these samples as well as a price list based
on large production volumes. These requests come
primarily from future clients in the military and
aerospace fields.
The
majority of groups present at this conference develop
products based on nanotechnology, and are financed
in whole or in part by the US program, National
Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI). This program is
managed by many federal agencies in the US, and
has an available budget of more than US$1 billion
annually. Among these agencies include the Department
of Defense, the Department of Energy, NASA, the
Department of Health, and others. NNI was launched
in 2000 with the goal to promote the development
of applications using nanotechnology, and has a
budget of US$4.7 billion.
For
example, thanks to nanotechnology, the group Institute
for Soldier Nanotechnologies (ISN), who was present
at the conference, has the definitive mandate to
create a battlesuit which combines high-tech capabilities
with the need for light weight, comfortable clothing.
The ISN's challenge is to transform today's cotton/nylon
fatigues and bulky equipment belts to a sleek,
lightweight battlesuit that provides everything
from responsive armor to medical monitoring to
communications-and more-in one integrated system.
The
use of nanotechnology will be important for military
applications such as solar panels, coatings, batteries,
electronics, sensors and artificial muscles. Given
the progression of work underway, Raymor expects
to complete installation of its 10,000 gram/day
single-walled carbon nanotubes (C-SWNT) production
line this fall.
RAYMOR
INDUSTRIES INC. (TSX-V:RAR) has as its mission
to become the leading Canadian developer of high
technology and a producer/recycler of advanced
materials and nanomaterials for high value-added
applications. In November 2004, Raymor Industries
created a wholly-owned, industrial subsidiary,
AP&C Advanced Powders and Coatings, specializing
in nanotechnology and advanced materials, and comprising
four operational divisions: (1) nanotechnology
products, including nano-powders, nano-coatings,
and single-walled carbon nanotubes (C-SWNT) for "the
applications of tomorrow"; (2) metal and ceramic
coatings, which largely targets military, aeronautical,
aerospace, specialized industrial, and mining applications;
(3) spherical metallic powders, primarily used
for biomedical and aerospace applications; and
(4) net-shape forming, a component manufacturing
technique used for ballistic protection and other
aerospace and military applications. Raymor holds
the exclusive rights to more than 20 patents throughout
the world, with other patents pending.
