CORDIS
(Community Research and Development Information Service),
the European Union's official online information platform
for scientific research, has launched a new online
service covering the research and innovation activities
being led by the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council
of the European Union (1 January - 30 June 2005).
The new service includes the
latest news on Luxembourg activities in the research
and innovation sphere, and will feature interviews
with policy makers and coverage of the three meetings
of the EU Competitiveness Council, scheduled for 7
to 8 March, 18 April and 6 to 7 May 2005.
The Luxembourg Presidency's
research and innovation policy priorities are also
laid out, such as initiating the required preparatory
work in order to adopt the Seventh Framework Programme
(FP7), reinforcing activities in the field of nanotechnology,
and developing a preliminary version of the future
European Space Programme. It will also focus on human
resources in the field of science and technology,
especially with respect to measures to facilitate
the mobility and clarify the status of researchers.
The events section highlights
the forthcoming conferences and meetings designed
to contribute to the building of a Europe-wide research
and innovation area. These will include a conference
on 'Promoting the Next Generation of Young Researchers
in Europe' in April and the launch of the 'Researchers
in Europe 2005' initiative in June.
The service provides statistics,
case studies and contacts for linking research and
innovation, including the Innovation Relay Centre
(IRC) and relevant ministries. It also offers access
to profiles of EU-funded projects coordinated from
Luxembourg, as well as exploitable technologies from
Luxembourg-based participants in EU research programmes.
The new Luxembourg Presidency
Research and Innovation Information Service on CORDIS
will be useful not only for researchers and policy
makers, but also for small companies seeking understanding
and opportunities from the emerging internal market
of knowledge and new technologies.
The service was developed jointly
by CORDIS and Luxinnovation, the national agency for
the promotion of innovation and research, and National
Contact Point (NCP) for the Sixth Framework Programme
(FP6), EUREKA, ESA, and the transnational Innovation
Relay Centre (IRC) for Luxembourg-Trier-Saarbrucken.
It is available in English, French and German, and
replaces the Luxembourg entry in the CORDIS National
Services on Research and Innovation, which cover all
EU Member States, and includes sections on Candidate
and Associated Countries.
