| The
reports underline the participation of work teams from
a number of BAS’s institutes – Institute of Space Research,
Institute of Material Science, Inst. Mechanic and Biomechanic,
Inst. Electrochemistry and Energy Systems, Inst. Solid
State Phys, and from Sofia University and Univ. Chemical
Technology and Metallurgy, into Network of Excellence,
Integrated Projects, Specific Supported Actions, Coordinated
Action – all of them included in 6FP and in its Third
Priority – NMP. The creation of a Centre of Excellence
on this subject in the Institute of Physical Chemistry
is particularly satisfying
The
coordination of the institutions activities for the
education of young researchers, competent in the nanotechnology
sphere, comprises the main part of the activities
of NCNT. The Centre actively assisted in the preparation
of educational programmes and courses in the field
of nanotechnology for BSc and MSc students. The publishing
of 2 nanotechnology textbooks last year has to be
underlined. A significant number of PhD theses( 25)
in the same field were prepared and defended (7) in
the Institutes at BAS and in various universities.
A major NCNT activity is the organizing of the annual
Workshop Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, representing
a forum for presentation of the scientific achievements
not only from Bulgarian researchers, but also from
foreign scientific work teams – from France, India,
Russia, Slovakia. The annual workshop is traditionally
accompanied by a satellite COSENT Meeting (supported
from UNESCO) of the partners for regional cooperation
with representatives from Greece, Turkey, Macedonia,
Rumania and Serbia. This year’s Workshop was mobilized
and financially supported by NENAMAT – the 6FP - SSA
contract for 10 EC Associated and member states. The
event, organized under the auspices of BAS, provides
an excellent opportunity for young researchers’ contributions
and publications. The European Commissioner J.- L.
ValLes stressed particularly on their large attendance
and on their active participation in the Second in
a row contest for the best presented report by a young
scientist. The implementation of the Sixth Workshops
helps for joining of the efforts of Bulgarian scientists
to take part in large and significant projects financially
supported by the EC.
